Renaissance Charter School has established behavior rules for school bus transportation. It is important to note that violation of the behavior rules may result in suspension or exclusion from riding the school bus. Families are expected to abide by the following school bus rules and expectations. When a student chooses to deviate from appropriate behavior, disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the Student Handbook. Note: The student is required to attend school on the days of bus suspension. Absences during bus suspension are not excused absences. The parent must make all necessary arrangements to make sure that the student attends school.

Students must follow all bus safety procedures and will follow all instructions given by the driver. All buses will have assigned seats. Students must take their assigned seats immediately and remain in their seats during the bus ride. The bus driver reserves the right to move a student’s seat if that student is acting in a disruptive manner.

Students must follow the student code of conduct as described in the School’s Student Handbook. Students must be polite and courteous to one another. Electronic devices, including school-issued iPads, must be kept in backpacks. Video or audio recording of other passengers on the bus is not permitted. Bullying will not be tolerated (verbal, physical, cyber) Failure to abide by the forging rules or exhibiting the following behavior will result in discipline up to and including suspension from or exclusion from riding the school bus:

1. Standing or walking when the bus is in motion.

2. Placing head, arms, and legs outside of the window.

3. Tampering with bus equipment including doors, windows, and emergency exit doors.

4. Moving or touching another student's property.

5. Throwing objects outside/inside the bus.

6. Eating, drinking, or gum chewing.

7. Conducting pranks on students, bus drivers, or emergency authorities.

8. Fighting, tripping, shoving, cursing, yelling, or shouting.

9. Any inappropriate behavior as defined by the Student Code of Conduct.

1. Please allow a 15-minute window before and after the scheduled stop time to accommodate varying traffic conditions.

2. Students in second grade and under require a guardian to be present in order to be released from the bus in the afternoon. They may, however, be released with older siblings. If a guardian or older sibling is not present at the stop, the student will be returned to the school, where a parent or guardian must pick them up.

3. Parents/guardians must be clearly visible to the driver, not in a vehicle, when picking up students at a bus stop.

4. Parents/guardians are not permitted to board the bus.
